The famous of downtown of Austin is somewhat cosmopolitan, casual, fashionable, weird, historic, intellectual, techie, hip, artistic, and eclectic as described by both local and foreign visitors to the place. The diversity of people living, visiting, and working here is just very wide.

Within just about a mile between the historic intersection of Congress and 6th Avenue (the exact place where the famous Angelina Eberly fired a cannon in an attempt to save the state’s archives and save the Capitol instead) is a great treasure of amazing arts, cultures, and other exciting things to do. On top of that, the downtown is also the center for education, government, and business, where people usually come together in a city that is laid-back but very energetic and creative.

Austin’s downtown is still in the period of change and transition. Though their market of housing is skyrocketing, some areas are still struggling to compete with the outlying areas to keep its share in the retail and office market. However, Austin’s downtown business still remains better for the most part because of the diversity of what the city can offer to various people.

The downtown is animated with wealth of entertainment and cultural venues which includes the famous 6th Street where people can enjoy the late night bars, restaurants, clubs, and the comedy variety show of Esther Follies. The bats in the Congress Street Bridge are also worth the visit. Moreover, Austin’s downtown has been subjected for a number of studies and plans for many decades, and each has significantly contributed to the massive and excellent ideas as well as various changes.
