The University of Texas in Austin is a public educational institution that was first founded in the year 1883. The 350-acre campus has an urban setting with a total of 38,168 enrolled undergraduates. The University utilizes its academic calendar basing on semesters. It currently ranks 45 in the 2011 Best Colleges in the national level of universities. When it comes to sports, the Austin’s University of Texas have sports teams that are quite tough competitors in the Big 12 Division I Conference with the popular mascot “Bevo” the Longhorn. The loft campus building, UT Tower, is usually lit with the university’s burnt orange color when there’s a notable achievement is sports and blazes a “#1” sign when a certain teams wins their national championship.
The freshmen are not required to live right in the campus, thus may choose to live in the downtown area if they wish to, which is only just about a quarter of a mile away. The city itself is very well-known for its food, music, night life, and outdoor activities and university students can even travel without charge with the capitol Metro buses as long as they have their school ID.
